xxii (and another)
After the flood
I send a dove
from myself
to you
but she is carried off
by a misplaced gale.
So after the flood
I send a raven
from myself
to you
and she returns to me
with bread
with fish
with sweet milk
but I send her back
to the air
and she returns
with a tattered wedding dress
and she returns
with an ivory comb
and she returns
with a lock
of your hair
torn from
the root.

After the flood
There is more
flooding
More birds to send
More birds to return
With what they retrieve.

Rather mournful tone to the poem.
Christopher Anthony Leibow
a little and maybe a little more aggressive.
